SELF-CONCLUSION
Sample Chapter
For the first time in her life, Sorrell was afraid.
Her feet tore through the forest beneath her. Moonlight beamed down through the trees to guide her way. The girl’s arms pumped furiously at her side, willing her body to move even faster. She prayed no one was following her. Frantic thoughts flashed through her mind as she glanced back in fear.
If I don’t get there first…, she shook the idea from her head, not wanting to think of the unsavory ending that would happen to her if this plan failed.
A breeze blew against her face. She heard the beating of wings ahead. That was her destination. She wasn’t far now. Adrenaline pumped through Sorrell’s veins giving her the extra edge she needed to go faster. She was almost there!
Splashing through a small brook she finally saw it: a large rock that shimmered in the light of the stars. A short way from the giant piece of granite lie a still figure. Sorrell slowed to a halt, hardly able to believe what her eyes beheld. The figure on the ground was a young girl. If a stranger were to walk by, they would mistake the unconscious figure to be Sorrell herself. They were identical in so many ways and yet Sorrell had no sister or family.
She walked slowly to the girl’s side and studied her. The girl was barely breathing. She wore strange clothes and had marks on her skin that were foreign to Sorrell. With a cautious hand, she touched the skin of her reflection self. The girl’s eyelids began to flutter.
I did it! she thought to herself. The dragon was right. The prophecy has begun!
Sorrell smiled at her accomplishment. How odd it was to gaze at a face designed like hers, as if looking into a reflection slightly altered.
So flurried by her achievement, Sorrell had neglected all the training that she spent a lifetime perfecting. Little did she know that someone was watching from above. Someone who had beaten her to the prize. Someone who had stumbled upon her secret.
